Gill Michael
Watercolours, Oils

I started painting over 25 years ago as a hobby. I learned the hard way by trial and error and watching videos reading books and later attending valuable workshops and demonstrations by local artists.
All of which helped me to develop a style and way of painting which I can call my own. As I was mainly self taught it took time for me to become proficient enough to exhibit my paintings, and to take the plunge to try to sell my work.
Since that time I’ve sold over 300 paintings mainly online via a well known auction site, but also in exhibitions and local galleries.
My style tends to be very colourful and bright. I love bold colour, drama and strong contrast. I take lots of photographs and use them as a basis for ideas, not copying religiously the picture in front of me but letting the paint and my hand dictate the final painting.
I love experimenting with paints be it oils or watercolour, the mixing and interaction on the paper and canvas inspires me to go on. My subject matters tend to be landscape, seascapes and animals. All painted in quirky “unnatural” colours.
I work mainly with watercolour and oil, although I have had “success” with pastel too. I hope you like my work and any comments would be gratefully received.
