Acrylics

Art for art’s sake…..pleasure for your sake.
I was a carpet designer until I retired in 2014. Not exactly what I expected to do with my life, but I loved it.
I designed Axminsters, Wiltons and Rugs, then many types of Tufted Carpet where I overcame the complicated technology. I designed Swirls and Curls, I designed Florals and Persians, Moderns and Textures and adored every minute. But most of all I designed Colour, yes, I designed colour!
Colour is my passion! The juxtaposition of colour, the balance of colour, the percentage of colour, all the same rules apply to painting as they do when designing a pattern. So being retired does not mean I stop all that fun, I just put it into paintings instead!
I paint mainly in Acrylics these days as I love their versatility. But I also paint with watercolours, use pastels, whatever I feel is the necessary media for the subject. I suppose I have several styles, from the almost realistic (for instance painting sky is one of my favourite subjects) to the cheerful & quirky where I love incorporating modelling paste to give texture, and using small stones and slate from the beach. I enjoy cutting tree shapes and building cottages or miniature villages out of natural wood to incorporate in some of my paintings too.
And who knows what found objects I will use, for me that is part of the whole creative process and I always enjoy the challenge and discovery of trying out something new, as that is often when the joy happens! My aim is two fold, to make people happy and make them smile, and by doing so then I am also happy!
