Image Sizes
If you’re wondering what size to make your images before uploading then we would suggest a rough guide of a minimum of 2000 pixels on the shortest side. This should enable your gallery images to open fullscreen on most monitors / tablets.
This image measures 1080 x 607 pixels. As you can see, it doesn’t fill the screen on the larger iPad and PC monitor.

This image measures 2560 x 1439 pixels and as you can see, it stretches full width across all 3 devices.

Most modern devices will produce pictures of an adequate size, for instance, an iPad Air 2 camera produces a standard image size of 2592 x 1936 pixels which would be ideal for uploading here. If your images have been scanned then quite often these will be too large to upload here (10Mb limit) so worth checking first.
It’s worth pointing out that images can be resized smaller, without losing quality, but cannot be enlarged without suffering quality degradation. So err on the large side when uploading your images and then we can adjust them if they need resizing to a smaller file size.
How do I find out what size an image is?
If you’re using a PC then usually right-clicking on the image will bring up the file details.
If using a tablet, then the easiest way is to download one of the numerous ‘file resizing’ apps., most of which are free. Simply load up the image, and go to ‘resize’ and the original image size should be displayed. Don’t forget to make the shortest side 2000 pixels when preparing images for your gallery here.

Generally the file size, if you’ve set the shortest side to 2000 pixels and also depending on the colour saturation, will be approx. 250k to around the 1Mb size, so perfectly adequate for uploading purposes. It’s worth pointing out that although you may have a fast broadband connection, ‘uploading’ is significantly slower than ‘downloading’ so if your images are all around the 10Mb mark, then you will need to allow a little more time for the upload to complete.
