Pastels, Charcoal, Coloured Pencils, Inks
As a self-taught artist living in the Northumbrian countryside, I have always loved being surrounded by beauty and making beautiful things.
My passion is for portraiture of both people and animals and I love to take a blank sheet of paper and begin the process of creating an image that will capture not just a likeness, but the essence of the subject.
Much of my work is commission based, but I produce and sell prints and cards in various galleries locally. My favourite medium is soft pastels as I find that there are no limits to their expressive potential. However, I particularly favour charcoal and monochrome effects for much of my people portraiture as they help me to convey the ‘soul’ of a person.
When it comes to playing with colour I have discovered the fascinating and unpredictable world of Alcohol Inks, which have allowed me to experiment and produce more unique impressionistic/abstract pieces.
Through my art I have been fortunate enough to have been asked to run workshops and provide tuition and from this I have made many wonderful new friends who all share the same passion for this amazing journey of creativity.
